Dear Coast family,
This Sunday we will begin a new format during our 9:00 AM hour. We plan to seek to grow together in our knowledge of God by going deeper in our understanding of theology.
We decided to go in this direction for a number of reasons and believe this will serve our body in a number of helpful ways.
We will still continue our overview of the Old Testament books on the Sundays we talk about 'Biblical Theology.'
Theology is the study and knowledge of God (His essence, His Persons, His words, His works, His ways, His thoughts on subjects).
Historical, Systematic, Biblical, Practical, and Personal.
I will be doing much of the teaching, but it is our desire to involve others as much as possible and as seems good. So other men will be encouraged to teach and scheduled to do so.
This is why we are moving away from calling it 'The Pastor's Class' and moving to call it the 'School of Theology.' 'Coast School of Theology' sounds much more grandiose than we want it to, but it is accurate for what we are planning to do.
The first topic will be a ‘practical theology’ topic:
A Theology of Parenting
This is obviously a follow up from what was preached last Sunday. It seems fitting in light of the fact that we haven’t taught on this lately and we have some new parents in our body.
June 24 The Practical Theology of Parenting
July 1 The Historical Theology of the Lord’s Supper
July 8 The Systematic Theology of the Lord’s Supper
July 15 The Biblical Theology of Obadiah
July 22 The Practical Theology of Decision Making
July 29 The Personal Theology of John Newton
I would encourage everyone to make a special effort to join us for this time on Sunday mornings, if at all possible. It’s a great way to grow together in the knowledge of our wonderful God.
You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness, but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. – 2 Peter 3:17-18
In Christ’s love,
