Using Technology 'Christian-like'

Technology and the Christian life. Ditches on both sides of the road. We can use technology like the world does (ie, in a very 'un-Christian way'). But we can try to use technology as Christians and still end up being very 'un-Christian' in our use!

So how should we sum up our response to technology?

We need to keep in mind three things as seek to move forward in light of what we've said:

1. We should move forward with wonder and tears. (Psalm 103:1-5)

2. We should move forward with proper self-criticism and input from others. (Romans 15:14; Matthew 7:5)

3. We should move forward with a healthy respect for our sinful tendency to make good things into idols (things which we look to for salvation and satisfaction instead of God). (Romans 1:25; 1 John 5:21)

We need to ask three important questions:

1. What is right?

What does the Bible say is right and wrong whether it is 'online' or 'offline'?

Romans 3:20; 1 John 3:4; 5:17; 2 Corinthians 5:9; Ephesians 4:17-32; Romans 12:14-21

2. What is wise?

If the Bible doesn't directly address something, what is the wise thing to do?

Ephesians 5:1-21

Is my use of technology ...

Profitable in some way? (1 Corinthians 6:12)

Controlling me in some way? (1 Corinthians 6:12)

Building me up in some way? (1 Corinthians 10:23)

Causing others to be led into sin? (1 Corinthians 8:9)

Something I pray about and seek to honor God in? (1 Corinthians 10:30-31)

Keeping in view the ultimate issue of my salvation and the salvation of others? (1 Corinthians 10:32-33)

3. What is my plan?

Do I have some practical resources and strategies for protecting myself and my family?
