Who Owns Whom?

Technology. Blessing or curse? Tool for worship and love or idol that destroys relationships?

The reality is that technology is not evil in itself. It very much depends on what we do with it and why.

Technology is simply creatively applying what we know to what God has given us in creation in order to make things/tools/processes that will help us in various ways.

We should be thankful for technology that has developed over the centuries (tool making, engineering feats, washing machines, musical instruments, cars, computers, smartphones, etc).

But the explosion of digital technology has impacted our world in many good, bad, and unexpected ways.

If we are to do all things to the glory of God, then our use of our smartphones (and all other kinds of technology, digital or otherwise) needs to be examined and refined in light of the truth of Scripture and our goal to please God by trusting Him and loving others in every situation and relationship.

We have to begin by asking the hard questions regarding our use or misuse of technology.

Do we own our smartphones or do they own us?

You can hear more about this by going here and listening to Trust and Love in a Digital World - Part 1.

Ultimately, our use of technology and everything else comes down to our relationship with God.

And one of the most important issues is whether we see God as a harsh, hard-driving Law-Giver or a good, gracious Father.

And whether we approach our Christian life as primarily about rule-keeping or about responding to the love of the Father for us.
