Doubting Your Doubts
Doubts. A kind of suffering. Calls for mercy not condemnation.
And have mercy on some, who are doubting. - Jude 1:22
Doubts are serious but they need not be seen as fatal. We need to address our doubts and recognize their perpetual presence without being too hard on those who doubt.
The video above highlights the reality of some measure of doubt in all that we address in a fallen world. The issue isn't whether there is evidence for Christ and the gospel that is beyond 'possible doubt' but whether there is evidence for Christ and the gospel that is beyond 'reasonable doubt.'
Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, “I do believe; help my unbelief.”
- Mark 9:24
This video highlights the reality that God works in our lives by grace through faith and that faith is not a perfect faith (with 100% certainty) but a real faith accompanied by some measure of doubt and struggle. As such we will always be crying out, 'I believe, help my unbelief!'
The struggle with doubt in a fallen world is just one more reason to rest in what Christ has done for us and what God's Word says is true, regardless of how we feel or what we experience, like an infant in the arms of a loving mother.
